Born in Vancouver, B.C. on September 14, 1937, into the Ron Bick Lee household, Bill was the youngest of seven in a close knit and supportive family.  He had a lengthy education, starting in Model Elementary School, King Edward High School, University of British Columbia, University of Washington (BS, Engineering Physics), Purdue University (MSE Aerospace Engineering), and back to the University of British Columbia (PhD Physics).

Bill met Mirian in college and they were married in 1963. In 1970 they moved their young family to Taiwan to serve with The Navigators.  A Physics professor at the National Taiwan University and then Tunghai University, he poured his life into his students.  By the 1980’s, hundreds of students were impacted weekly.

Returning to Vancouver in 1989, Bill’s days continued to be full.  He became involved in church planting, mentoring young men, a coffee shop ministry, music outreach, hospital visitations, family care, had regular trips to Taiwan with Mirian to encourage his beloved students, and much more.

​

His heart and passion were loving God with his whole being and lavishly loving people.  He prioritized studying the Bible, thinking about it, and lots of prayer.  No matter where he was and what he was involved with, he actively looked for people to bless.

Throughout his life, Bill kept physically fit, running regularly.  At 80, he climbed the Grouse Grind with nieces and nephews, hiked up the Great Wall with grandchildren, and ran many Vancouver Sun Runs with church friends.  After the last race, he somehow didn’t have a ride home and decided to jog all the way back to Richmond.

Bill and Mirian have four children - Debbie, Stephanie, Linda, and Peter - and 15 amazing grandchildren who have brought them richness of joy the last 30 years.
